Sports Injury Treatment in Castlewellan, County Down

Sports injuries do not fix themselves — and ignoring them rarely makes them better. At Better Days Physiotherapy, we assess and treat sports injuries with the same rigour applied to elite athletes, for patients from weekend parkrunners to competitive sportspeople across County Down and Northern Ireland.

Common sports injuries we treat

  • Ankle sprains and ligament injuries

  • Knee pain (including runner's knee and ACL rehabilitation)

  • Hamstring, quad, and calf strains

  • Shoulder injuries (rotator cuff, AC joint, instability)

  • Hip flexor and groin injuries

  • Shin splints and stress reactions

  • Plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendon problems

  • Tennis and golfer's elbow

  • Post-operative sports rehabilitation

If you are not sure whether your injury warrants an assessment, the honest answer is: if it is affecting your training or your daily life, it is worth getting looked at. Most sports injuries are significantly more straightforward to manage when they are addressed early.

Our approach

Declan's assessment goes beyond the injured body part. Sports injuries often have a root cause — a movement pattern, a muscle imbalance, a training load issue — and treating only the symptom tends to lead to re-injury. Your treatment plan addresses both the immediate problem and the factors driving it, so you can return to sport with confidence rather than just crossing your fingers.

Treatment may include hands-on therapy, exercise-based rehabilitation, acupuncture for pain management, and taping to support the injured area during your return.

Declan's sports background

Declan holds an MSc in Sports and Exercise Physiotherapy and has worked with elite athletes in MMA, basketball, and track and field. He has also managed complex traumatic injuries in military rehabilitation settings. He is HCPC registered and a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

This is not generic physiotherapy applied to sports injuries — it is sports physiotherapy delivered by someone who has spent their career in that environment.
