Back Pain Physiotherapy in Castlewellan, County Down

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people come to Better Days — and one of the most treatable. Whether you have had a sudden onset of acute back pain or a long-standing problem that comes and goes, physiotherapy can help you understand what is driving it and give you a clear path to getting better.

Types of back pain we treat

  • Acute lower back pain (sudden onset, often from lifting or twisting)

  • Chronic lower back pain that has persisted for more than three months

  • Upper back pain and thoracic stiffness

  • Sciatica and nerve-related pain radiating down the leg

  • Disc-related back problems

  • Back pain related to posture, prolonged sitting, or sedentary work

  • Back pain during or after pregnancy

Our approach

Back pain is almost never as simple as a disc problem or a trapped nerve. In most cases, there are contributing factors — muscle imbalances, movement habits, loading patterns, stress — and addressing only the symptom without understanding the whole picture is why so many people's back pain comes back.

At Better Days, your assessment is thorough. Declan will take a detailed history, assess your movement, test your strength and neural tension, and explain what he finds before any treatment begins. Your treatment plan may involve hands-on therapy, targeted exercise rehabilitation, acupuncture, or taping — often a combination of these, progressed over several sessions as your back improves.

When to see a physiotherapist for back pain

You do not need a GP referral. If your back pain is stopping you from working, exercising, or sleeping; present for more than two to three weeks with no improvement; getting worse rather than better; or accompanied by sciatica or leg pain — then it is worth getting an assessment rather than waiting it out. Early intervention usually means faster recovery.
